Destinations: Ha Long literally means descending dragon(s) and, according to local myth, the story goes as follows: Long ago when their fore-fathers were fighting foreign invaders from the north, the gods from heaven sent a family of dragons to help defend their land. This family of dragons descended upon what is now Ha Long bay and began spitting out jewels and jade. Upon hitting the sea, these jewels turned into the various islands and islets dotting the seascape and formed a formidable fortress against the invaders. The locals were able to keep their land safe and formed what is now the country of Vietnam. The Dragon family fell so much in love with this area for its calm water that they decided to remain on earth to show reverence for the people of Vietnam. Mother Dragon lies on what is now Ha Long, and her children lay in Bai Tu Long. The dragon tails form the area of Bach Long Vi, known for the miles of white sandy beaches of Tra Co peninsula. Ninh Binh is 90 km south of Hanoi. This city is famous for the Tam Coc cave, for its rice fields.

Detail Itinerary

Day 1: Hanoi - Kim Boi - (cycling around 60km) (L, D)

Today, after breakfast, we drive out of Hanoi then gear up for our first day of riding. We will also meet our

additional cycling crew. One vehicle is our bus, which will act as a support vehicle and carry our luggage. The other is a truck for carrying the bikes. We are also introduced to our bicycles, each designated bike then being adjusted and fitted with our own equipment as required. We will receive a briefing on how to ride the bikes and how to handle the traffic in Vietnam. We will then set out for our first ride in Vietnam through the valley of sugarcane and rice fields along Highway 6 until we reach the biggest hydropower station in Vietnam. After lunch we keep riding on Highway 6 and the first challenge is up to the top of Doc Kun. The pass is open to Hoa Binh town and the Black River. Tonight we stay in one of the best resorts in the northwest with its own hot spring.

Day 2: Kim Boi - Perfume pagoda - (cycling around 60km) (B, L, D)

Today's part - cycle is on an excellent road through many Muong and Viet villages with rice fields and children who will no doubt try to do hi-fives with you. Stay in guesthouse.

Day 3: Perfume pagoda - Ninh Binh - (cycling around 60km) (B, L, D)

Following breakfast we cycle through more superb mountain country en route to Phu Ly. Along the way we pass through several different villages and are able to see at close quarters how people go about their daily lives.

Day 4: Ninh Binh - (cycling around 40km) (B, L)

After early breakfast we transfer to Dong Dao plantation, where we start cycling. Today we cycle about 30 km on the panoramic road to Cuc Phuong National Park. We will go through the pineapple plantations, valleys, villages, and meet friendly locals along the way. We arrive at Cuc Phuong National Park at around noon, and enjoy our packed lunch here. Afterwards, we cycle about 2 hours through the National Park and make a couple of stops to visit the Cave of Ancient Men, and take a walk before heading back to Ninh Binh.

Day 5: Ninh Binh - Hai Phong - (cycling around 80km) (B, L, D)

Leaving Ninh Binh after breakfast, we head northeast by bus and bike through the spectacular villages and landscapes to Hai Phong on Highway 10. Overnight in Hai Phong.

Day 6: Hai Phong - Cat Ba - (cycling around 40km) (B, L, D)

Leaving Hai Phong on bike for the final day’s riding, we board 2 ferries which take about 3 hours to get to Cat Ba island, which looks toward the the largest seaport in North Vietnam. After a picnic lunch at the entrance of the National Park, we will trek through the Park to the top of the mountain, where you can see the excellent view. We continue on biking to Cat Ba town where the view is so beautiful and the road open to the ocean. Overnight stay in Cat Ba.

Day 7: Cat Ba Island (B)

Day 8: Cat Ba - Halong Bay (B, L, D)

Today is a free day during which you can relax completely on the boat to Halong bay. This is the big chance to enjoy the World Natural Heritage site and the seafood dishes served on board. If the weather is nice we will have time to kayak and explore the tranquil Bay with its open caves. Tonight we stay on board and at anchor in the bay.

Day 09: Halong - Hanoi (B, L)

As the sun rises, another wonderful day starts. After breakfast, we will continue on kayaking or take a bamboo boat to visit a floating village on HaLong bay and see how the people live between a thousand islands and ocean. After one hour we return to our boat to cruise to Bai Tu Long bay, where we will see Turtle islet, Human Head islet, Teapot Islet, Bai Tho Mountain as well as the other side of Halong city. At 11:00AM we have our last lunch on board before taking the bus back to Hanoi. Tour Ends.

Biking Phnom Penh to Angkor Wat

Detail Itinerary

Day 1: Phnom Penh – Kampong Chnang

Pick up at your hotel at 8:00am. Today we head north on National road N5 via the ancient Japanese bridge

and start traveling through the Cambodian countryside. You will share the road with light local traffic and get a good sense of what Cambodian transportation actually is. After 12Km you get to Prek Phnov and at the junction we left turn to unpaved roads passing local villages and rice fields. We pass the ancient capital of Udong where Udong Mountain is still home to many of the old Royal Palaces. We pay a visit to one of the remaining stupa’s and after a visit we will ride on the paved road heading north-west to Kampong Chnang.

Kampong Chhnang is the provincial capital of the province with the same name. The Tonle Sap River passes by Kampong Chhnang and the floating village is an attraction itself. It is located 91 km North of Phnom Penh. The area is scenic and if you cross the river you will find several ancient temples from the Chenla period, such as Samrong Sen and Prasat Prah Srey. You’ll get great views of the countryside and for sure will meet hordes of people welcoming you with a broad smile and a “Hello Mr.!” quote. Check in hotel and have dinner at local restaurant. Overnight in Kampong Chnang.

Day 2: Kampong Chnang – Siem Reap

This morning you will start with a transfer by private boat to Siem Reap crossing the immense Tonle Sap Lake. The Tonle Sap Lake is the beating heart of Cambodia and nearly half of the Cambodians live from this lake. It’s the largest fresh water lake in South East Asia and its biodiversity has put the lake on the ecological 7 wonders of the world. The transfer takes about 4 hours. Upon arrival in Siem Reap we pass the floating village of Chhong Kneas. This large sized village is a bustling trade centre for fish, other lake "products" and tourism. The arrival will definitely one you will never forget. We cycle the 12km into town and settle in our hotel. A lunch will give us the power we need in order to explore the world largest heritage site: Angkor Wat. We will cycle towards a small but very significant temple called Banteay Srey. This temple is best preserved and its carvings and painting are remarkable. The road leading there passes through the Angkor Area and you get a glimpse of the massive complexes that were built between the 11th and 13th century. We continue the 25km to Banteay Srey through pretty countryside over a good and paved road. The late afternoon sun will only contribute to the beauty of the pink stone walls and towers of Banteay Srey. After our visit we cycle back towards Angkor Wat where a nice surprise awaits us. Back to the hotel. Dinner in local restaurant. Overnight in hotel in Siem Riep.

Day 3: Full day in Angkor Wat by cycling

If you want to this morning you can ask our tour guide to arrange a sunrise visit to the temples of Angkor to give you the opportunity see the ruins in all their splendor. Angkor Wat itself is just one of the many temples in the region but is one of the best preserved and most impressive. It is worth climbing the remarkably steep and narrow steps of the central spire for the view over the whole temple surrounded by jungle. Angkor Thom, is a fascinating ruin featuring many mysterious giant carved faces and some incredible wall carvings, and is one of the most remarkable sights in the area. Also not to be missed is the temple of Ta Prohm, which has been left to be reclaimed by nature and features incredible tree roots breaking through the stone carvings and walls, a fascinating tribute to the power of nature over man and an experience reminiscent of "Indiana Jones" and "Tomb Raider". Back to Siem Riep. Tour finishes.

Cycling 3 days/2 nights, HaTien border town - RachGia - CanTho - Saigon

Destinations: Bike Mekong Delta, Cycling Hatien to Saigon. One of the most interesting sights in the Delta are the floating markets and associated river life. Cai Rang Floating Market is open all day but it is busiest from sunrise to about 9am. The main items sold there are farm products and specialties of Cai Rang Town, Chau Thanh District and neighboring areas. Every boat has a long upright pole at its bow on which samples of the goods for sale are hung. Trading begins as early as 4.00 am, and by sunrise the waterways are clogged with the sampans of marketeers and customers. Vendors of smaller items hoist a sample of their wares on a bamboo pole. Shoppers come by land and water, and as they stumble from boat to boat, they often interrupt their shopping to enjoy bowls of noodles prepared, rather alarmingly, on open fires in special ‘fast food’ sampans. Day 1: Ha Tien – Rach Gia (L/D) (50-80 km)

A Vietnam Green Trail Tours guide will welcome you at the Xa-Xia border (hotel in Ha Tien town). We will have a short transfer out of Ha Tien town, then begin riding on a single track trail. In the morning, we will ride past a network of canals and take many little ferries to locals villages in this rural area. Continue riding on dirt roads alongside the waterway to Kien Luong town. Lunch en route, then continue riding on backroads to the seaside district. Continue cycling along coastal roads to Hon Dat. Have a short transfer to Rach Gia in the afternoon. Overnight in Rach Gia.

Day 2: Rach Gia – Can Tho (B/L/D) (60-100 km)

In the morning, transfer out of Rach Gia town, enjoy a nice coffee to warm up before biking to Vi Thanh city. Have lunch in the countryside, then bike on a dirt track, through beautiful country roads, to the outskirts of Can Tho. Pedal past rice fields and a network of manmade canals. Witness water activities in the surrounding area. Overnight in Can Tho.

Day 3: Can Tho - Sai Gon (B/L/) (30 km)

Can Tho is located in the center of the 12 provinces which make up the Mekong Delta. It is not only famous for rice but is also well-know for it's many floating markets. We'll have an early start by boat to a floating market, then head back to the hotel for breakfast. Transfer for an hour to Vinh Long town where we will cross the Co Chien river. Continue by bike to An Binh. Cycle 17 km to Cai Be town, then enjoy delicious lunch at an ancient house. After lunch, we will cycle another 15 km on back roads to Cay Lay, Tien Giang province. Transfer to Saigon, end of tour.

Leave Saigon for the Mekong Delta in the morning: take a two hour drive on the freeway to Tieng Giang province. Start biking on beautiful country roads along natural creeks; pedal slowly through rice fields and pass many waterway markets. Stop for coffee at a little town and visit a village, then cross a network of canals to Xeo Quyt Base, a former Viet Cong base with a small tunnel system. Xeo Quyt also was the headquarters of the V.C. in Dong Thap province during the American-Vietnam war from 1963-1975. A Viet Cong guide will take you to Xeo Quyt base by row boat. Here, a Viet Cong guide will explain the difficulties faced by V.C. living and fighting in this setting. Back to the base for lunch. After lunch, we cycle to Sadec town. Overnight in Sadec.

Day 2: Sadec – CanTho.( B/L/D) (50-75 km)

Wake up in early morning, take a walk to Sadec market nearby, and see how the locals prepare an early morning market in town. Visit some traditional French villas, built by the French along the canals. Explore the town of Sadec. Sadec town is the only town could remain Indochina history in Saigon Gia Dinh. The town also was the place where Madam Magueret, "Magueret Duras" made famous in a movie about her love with a Chinese man before 1932. Check out of the hotel, start to ride through ornamentals, flower gardens, pass by workshops, and see locals producing rice powder. Lunch en route. In the afternoon, continue to cycle by sweet potato plantations and rice fields to Can Tho. Overnight in the capital city of Vietnam's Mekong Delta.

Day 3: Can Tho – Saigon. (B/L/) (30 km)

Enjoy a boat ride to the Cai Rang floating market, the biggest and busiest of all floating markets in the Mekong region. Spend 30 minutes watching heavy traffic on the water as locals exchange goods from boat to boat. Then disembark and visit another land market. Start riding on back roads to O Mon. ride through rural villages and cross a network of canals. Have lunch and transfer back to Saigon. End of tour.

Day 1: Chau Doc – Cao Lanh (L/D) (50-70 km)

Chau Doc is located west of the Mekong Delta between upper and lower branches of the Mekong River. The town is famous as the gateway between Vietnam to Cambodia. Enjoy an hour motorboat trip to a floating village and Cham village, visit a mosque and sarong workshop. Check out of the hotel and cross lower river to Chau Giang Dist. Ride on dirt track to Cho Moi, pedal past Hoa Hao Buddhist Holly pagoda, keep pedaling to Cho Moi for lunch. From this town, we take a little ferry to the Island to pedal to the Monastery, which was built 120 years ago by the French. This is the first Monastery building site in Indochina, established in 1874. In the late afternoon, ride to Cao Lanh city. Spend the night in town.

Day 2: Cao Lanh – Can Tho (B/L/D) (40-60 km)

Have breakfast and take a ferry to the other side of upper brand of Mekong River. Start biking to Sadec, ride past flower and ornamental gardens. Visit "Huynh Thuy Leâ€™s house", the house made famous in the movie The Lover, with Margueti Duras, set in Sadec from 1928 to 1932, in which a French teenage girl embarks on a reckless and forbidden romance with a wealthy, older Chinese man. Sadec is one of the few towns in Mekong Delta which still has the remains numerous colonial buildings from the French Indochina era. Enjoy a delicious lunch in Huynh Thuy Le's house. From this house, you can see the vocational school on the other side of canal. This school was the first French army bases in Vietnam's Mekong Delta. Continue to cycle to Can Tho, ride on country roads along man-made canals and sweet potato plantations. Overnight in Can Tho.

Day 3: Can Tho – Saigon (B/L/) (50 km)

Can Tho is the largest city of the 12 provinces which comprise Vietnam's Mekong Delta region. Have breakfast and check out before a boat ride to Cai Rang floating market. This is the busiest market on the river. Then ride 25 km on the rural roads of outskirts of Can Tho. Have a short transfer to Vinh Long for lunch before driving to Saigon. End of Tour.

Returning to our boat, we cruise again one hour to Ben Tre for the night. Overnight home stay in farmer house.

Day 2: Ben Tre to Sai Gon (Breakfast, lunch)

This day, we cycle total around 35km from morning until 3.00 pm with many stops and visit.

After breakfast, we start cycling 4hrs back on small trail along the river, see daily life of the locals, feeling lost on winding road under the green coconut canopy. The coconut palms that make Ben Tre famous in Viet nam.

On arrival in Ben Tre at noon time, we cruise down the busy branches of Mekong and into a peaceful canal. Visit an island orchard, lunch break with traditional meal, see the daily life of farmers and try exotic seasonal fruits unique to the region. Hammock siesta, then we cycle to explore this quiet area, call on coconut-candy workshop and other handicraft workshop (if time permitting) before coming back to our bus. Return to Sai Gon. Wake up early, have breakfast before biking 7 km to a boat station where we will relax for 30 minutes on a boat ride to the Cai Be floating market. Watch the people from surrounding areas come to exchange goods from boat to boat on the river. This is one of the oldest floating markets in Vietnam's Mekong Delta. We disembark and ride to the countryside area of Cay Lay. Stop for lunch, then transport back to Saigon in the afternoon. End of tour.

Day 01: Hanoi – Laocai. Overnight train.

20:00, you will be met up by Green Trail Tours guide, driver at your hotel lobby (in Hanoi) and transferred to Hanoi

Railway Station for overnight train to Sapa. Train??? Departure at 21:00 (TBA).

Day 02: Arrive early morning Laocai. Transfer to Sapa. Cycling. Dinner and homestay (B/L/D).

Arrive at Laocai Railway Station at around 6:00am in the morning. You will be greeted by another Lotussia Travel guide, driver and transferred to Sapa.

After a short rest and breakfast in a local restaurant in town, cycle downhill on a windy road, which goes along Muong Hoa valley. The valley is home to Black Hmong, Giay and Red Dao minorities. From the road you will have many opportunities to enjoy amazing scenery of mountains and rice paddy terraces as far as the eyes can see. After a short break in Su Pan, you will cycle downhill until you reach Thanh Phu village of Tay minority. Here you stop for lunch in a traditional Tay house. After lunch, your ride will be mostly uphill; you head toward Sin Chai village of Red Dao minority. Where you will stay overnight in the red Dao family.

Day 03: Cycling. Transfer back to Laocai. Overnight train to Hanoi (B,L).

Today’s ride will be a little softer. You will pass by some tinny villages. You can stop by a local school and give children some small gifts such as pens or books. You will also be able to meet Xa Pho minority, one of the smallest ethnic group, which cannot be found in other areas. You will pass by Thanh Phu and continue to Ban Ho. In Ban Ho you will enjoy lunch in a local house. After lunch, you will take a short walk to the nearby river, where you will be able to have a swim. You can take a break and have a cup of tea in a Tay

house before you get on a car for a journey back to Sapa and then Laocai. Take the overnight train back to Hanoi. Train??? Departure at 20:30 (TBA).

Day 3 (B-L-D): Bac Ha - Chay River

After Breakfast, spend an hour walking around the hamlet to meet the locals and enjoy the breathtaking scenery. Gear up to head out along a 2km local trail to pick up the main road, then it's an 18km climb to Bac Ha. For those who find it tough, your support vehicle will be there to help you up the stunning mountain pass. Check into the hotel in Bac Ha, relax and enjoy lunch. Following lunch you'll do an 8km loop around Bac Ha to visit the locals, stopping in Ban Pho village. After this, you'll hit a single track trail and dirt road winding through plum gardens and rice fields, and past local homes and inhabitants of the villages surrounding Bac Ha. Overnight in your Hotel in Bac Ha. .

Day 4 (B-L-D): Bac Ha - Hanoi

Following breakfast, visit the impressive house of the former H'mong King before embarking on a 12km ride to Lung Phin village, home of Flower H'mong and Phu La people. The ride is on sealed road and has a 3km steep climb which you can ride or drive depending on your energy level! Spend 30 minute visiting the locals, then you can relax and glide the 12km back to Bac Ha. After lunch in your hotel, you'll check out and start riding out of town, down the stunning mountain road, along the Chay River valley and back to Lao Cai. You can choose to ride 24km down the mountain to Bao Nhai Bridge then drive to Lao Cai, or ride the full 82km to Lao Cai. You'll be able to shower in Lao Cai before sitting down to dinner. After a short time passing the bustling town of Lao Cai, you will be again in the countryside of the Red River valley. The temperature now is much different from what you experienced earlier this morning. For the next 20 km you will be driving in lowland area, before reaching the village of Pac Ngam. Now we have a long and sometimes steep ascend to our final destination of today, Bac Ha. Should you feel tired from riding the bike, your jeep will pick you up and give you a lift to Bac Ha.

You will check in a small but comfortable hotel, where you will stay for the next two nights. A cold drink, a shower and a tasteful dinner will complete this day, and make it one to remember. (L,D)

You will spend all the morning to walk around the market exploring its magnificent chaos. We start out from Bac Ha by cycling downhill to Bao Nhai, where we get on a boat to have a cruise on the Chay river. It is a perfect way to finish our trip by sitting in the boat exploring the life at the riverbank. Your jeep will wait for you in Bao Nhai and take to Lao Cai Railways Station to reach the train back to Hanoi.
